awakened in a twilight zone unwitting, unpaid extra 

in the “DT Bannon & Bros Cirque du So Screwed” fun house show

through smoke and mirrors they shout at us 

to sit…compliant…as they twist and contort and lie

to shut up…deferential…as they deny deflect and distort

to lie down…immobile and acquiescent 

while vultures pick apart our character and devour our soul
